Cemetery field audio — 11 September 2020 (Whitehall / Whitehall Burial Ground, Mystic area).
History
Whitehall Burial Ground (often called Whitehall Cemetery in field notes) is a historic burying ground in the greater Mystic area. Stones and burials span the colonial and 19th-century seafaring community—captains, tradespeople, and families tied to the river and coast. Local heritage groups and commercial history tours (including moonlit graveyard walks) use the site to tell Mystic’s maritime and domestic past, not only “ghost stories.”
Local ghost lore
Tour operators and investigators describe residual and intelligent-type reports common to old New England yards: cold spots, peripheral figures, and occasional full-bodied apparitions attributed to 17th–19th century residents. Treat tour marketing and field claims separately; both explain why the ground remains an active investigation target.
