This policy covers the Ghosthound apps, GhosthoundField and Gate Hound, and the website ghosthound.com. The apps are published by Matthew Fabian (“we”).
GhosthoundField
GhosthoundField does not collect any personal data. Investigation cards, notes, session logs, sensor readings, EVP audio, photos, and LiDAR captures are stored only on your device. We have no account system, no analytics, and no advertising. Delete a case in the app, or delete the app, and that copy is gone. We do not keep one.
To show outdoor weather, the app sends your approximate coordinates to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) at the moment of the request. To show geomagnetic activity, it downloads the Kp index from NOAA, which sends no information about you. Neither service receives anything from us that identifies you.
When you choose to export a case, the app creates a file on your device and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Where it goes from there is up to you.
The app asks for these permissions, and each is used only for the feature named:
- Camera: evidence photos and LiDAR capture.
- Microphone: EVP audio recording.
- Location (while using the app): tagging cases and fetching local weather.
- Bluetooth: connecting to environmental sensors you pair.
- Motion: barometer and magnetometer readings.
- Photo library (add only): saving evidence photos you choose to save.
Gate Hound
Gate Hound does not collect any personal data. Your location is used only to find places near you. It is sent to Apple Maps and to Wikipedia’s nearby-article search to answer that request, and it is never stored or sent to us. The list of Ghosthound write-ups is downloaded from ghosthound.com without sending your location. Saved places stay on your device. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no location history. Delete a saved place, or delete the app, to remove it.
ghosthound.com
Like most websites, our server keeps standard logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited) for security and troubleshooting.
If you use the contact form, we use your name, email, subject, and message only to reply to you.
The investigation request form collects your name, email, phone if you provide one, street address, city, and a description of the report. That record stays private and is not published. Staff notices include the request ID and city only. We keep the request for up to 24 months, then delete it. Email us if you want it deleted sooner. A private address is not published without separate written consent.
Third parties named above receive only the data described for that feature, and only to provide it. We do not sell personal data.
Children
Our apps are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
