Historic burying ground — Zoar Cemetery, Newtown (Sandy Hook area), Connecticut.
History
In 1767, locals purchased land on Zoar Farm for a cemetery; by 1770 the town of Newtown voted the yard a proper town burying place. A modern marker (“Zoar Cemetery 1767”) stands among older stones. Family names on the ground track Sandy Hook and Newtown lineages—ordinary colonial and early republic life, not a purpose-built “haunted destination.” The cemetery remains an active historic landscape in a town better known nationally for later tragedies; treat the grounds with ordinary cemetery respect.
Local ghost lore
Zoar does not have one canonical statewide ghost story on the scale of Burlington’s Green Lady. Night photographers and regional lists sometimes file Newtown yards under generic “orbs and mists” claims. Ghosthound’s archive here is still photography of the cemetery, not a private-house haunting.
