Obama living in Haunted Hotel

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

If Joe the Plumber had a doppleganger, he’d be staying at the Hay-Adams Hotel across from the White House.  According to Maudlyne Ihejirika of the Chicago Sun Times, President Elect Obama is temporarily living in the haunted Hay-Adams before he moves across the street to another haunted house, the White House.

The Hay-Adams is alleged to be haunted by Marian “Clover” Adams, wife of Henry Adams, who is a descendant of Presidents John and John Quincy Adams.  It is said that Clover Adams suffered from depression, causing her to take her own life in 1885.

National Trust for Historic Preservation reports:

Examples of staff experiences include unexplained opening and closing of locked doors of unoccupied rooms; clock radios mysteriously turning off and on; the sounds of a woman crying softly in a room or a stairwell; or a voice of a woman asking a housekeeper, ‘What do you want?’
